Viimeiset kiusaukset, composed by Joonas Kokkonen, is a primally spiritual story of the Finnish Awakening leader Paavo Ruotsalainen, and over the years it has become one of the prominent classics of the Finnish opera. Viimeiset kiusaukset has been performed almost 300 times around the world, including venues like the Metropolitan.
Paavo must decide between his family and his work as a lay preacher. His wife Riitta passes away and his son Juhana is murdered. God has punished me with an iron whip through all my life: it has been deserved, sings the protagonist in Act I.
Come and experience the charm of the opera!
