This Lahti Organ Festival concert, conducted by Petri Komulainen, invites you on a journey with bright orchestral sonorities to Paris, St Petersburg and ancient Baghdad. The Symphonie Concertante by Joseph Jongen (b. 1926) is regarded as the most significant and virtuoso organ concerto of the 20th century. The soloist needs almost superhuman strength, extreme flexibility, the endurance of a long-distance runner and a feeling for beauty – in other words, the very abilities that distinguish Jimi Järvinen, a magician of the organ.

Kampin Laulu is an ambitious chamber choir whose repertoire covers the entire spectrum of classical music, with a particular focus on contemporary classical music. The concert Magnificat! brings together works composed to and inspired by the text of the Canticle of Mary, from monodic Byzantine songs to entirely new contemporary music. Choral classics in the concert include the Magnificat works by Rautavaara and Pärt, and the corresponding part of Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil. In addition, the concert features the premiere performance of a work commissioned from Teemu Tommola.
